Had a great experience here! The waiter told me everything was GF besides the desserts. I’m extremely sensitive to CC and had no reaction. I tried the margarita, guac and chips, salsa, queso fundito, plantains with mole, fish tacos, and Mexican corn, all really solid! Will be back.

Mexican and allergies: what to watch for

DairyWheat / GlutenTree nutsPeanut

Corn-based Mexican food is naturally gluten-light, but flour tortillas, wheat in some sauces, and shared fryers change that. Dairy shows up as cheese, crema and queso. The big hidden ones: nuts and seeds in moles, and soy in some marinades. Verify whether tortillas are 100% corn.

Common questions

Is Mexican food safe with a nut allergy?

Mostly, but mole sauces often contain nuts and seeds (and sometimes peanut), and horchata can contain almond. Ask specifically about mole and any 'house' sauce.

Are corn tortillas gluten-free?

Pure corn tortillas are, but some are corn-and-wheat blends and fryers are often shared with flour items. Confirm the tortillas are 100% corn and ask about the fryer.

How do I avoid dairy at a Mexican restaurant?

Ask for no cheese, crema or queso, and check that beans aren't cooked with butter or lard-plus-dairy. Many dishes are easy to make dairy-free on request.
